Thank you for contracting Williams Panel Brick in regards to your fireplace. We understand that you are concerned about the odor coming from your fireplace. We have written this letter so as to reassure you and provide you with information about possible causes and solutions.

Let us assure you, that your fireplace has been professionally installed by our certified installers to comply with BOCA, UL and the manufacturer’s requirements. The fireplace and chimney were inspected and approved by the local building department. As a result of this rigorous inspection process, it is typically not the fault of the fireplace.

WHAT DO I DO IF I SMELL GAS? CONTACT THE GAS COMPANY IMMEDIATELY!

MY NEW FIREPLACE HAS AN ODOR, BUT IT DOES NOT SMELL LIKE GAS? IS THIS NORMAL?

Yes. This is typically the result of the burning off of oils involved in the machining of the grates and other metal parts. To eliminate these smells, please follow these procedures:

1. Open the windows

2. Allow the fireplace to burn continuously for 8-12 hours

3. Place a fan in the window to draw off smoke and odor

4. If possible, close off the room

I HAVE HAD MY FIREPLACE FOR A WHILE. I JUST NOTICED THE SMELL THIS SEASON. WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS?

Dust, animal hair, and other airborne debris can accumulate above the fireplace and behind the grills, which can lead to an odor when it is hot. Additionally, spiders and other insects can make their webs and nests in these open areas. By wiping or vacuuming this area and following the burn off procedure, you should eliminate the odors. Cleaning these open areas should also prevent the odors from occurring.

I HAVE FOLLOWED THE GUIDELINES ABOVE, BUT THE FIREPLACE STILL HAS AN ODOR WHILE IT BURNS. WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
