We have been notified that you are experiencing difficulty in lighting your pilot. We have written this letter so that you can assist us in identifying the cause and possible solution to your situation. This will also eliminate the need for unnecessary and costly service calls.

Your professionally installed fireplace system complies with the rigorous specifications of BOCA, UL and the manufacturer. The fireplace and chimney has been installed by our certified installers and have been inspected and approved by the local building department. The standing pilot system that you possess is the basic system in the heating industry, and can serve to provide heat, even during power outages, when electrical systems have failed.

CHECK TO ENSURE THE GAS IS CONNECTED.

Begin by walking the entire gas line from your main line all the way up to the fireplace. If the heating and cooling contractor has performed work on your furnace, or if you have recently purchased other gas appliances, the other service technicians may have shut off the gas further up the line from your fireplace. Be sure the valves are parallel to the gas lines. If the valves are perpendicular to the gas line, turn them to the ON position. There may be a special key valve shut off located either in the floor or wall next to the fireplace. This can be turned on using the gas key. Turn the key in a counter clockwise direction to turn the gas on; turn clockwise to turn the gas off.

LIGHTING THE PILOT (NORMAL OPERATION)

1. Turn off all wall switches to the appliance.

2. Lower bottom access panel. Turn wall switch to the “OFF” position or set thermostat to lowest setting.

3. Turn gas line to CLOSED. Wait 5 minutes to clear out any gas. Then smell for gas, STOP! Follow “B” in the safety information above on this label. If you don’t smell gas, go to the next step.

4. Turn gas line to OPEN.

5. Turn pilot knob clockwise to “OFF”. (Knob may have to be depressed to pass “Pilot” position).

6. Locate pilot assembly inside unit.

7. Locate red igniter button.

8. Turn pilot knob to “PILOT” and push in.

9. Continue to hold in pilot knob and push the red igniter button 12-15 times until small blue pilot flame appears.

10. Continue to hold in pilot knob for approximately one minute. Pilot should remain lit, if pilot goes out, wait 5 minutes and repeat steps 4-9.

11. Release and turn knob counterclockwise to “ON”.

12. If the appliance will not operate, follow the instructions “To Turn Off Gas To Appliance” and call your service technician or gas supplier.

TROUBLE SHOOTING OPERATIONS.

1. If you encounter difficulty in lighting your pilot, please follow the guidelines listed below:
Turn off the main burner using the wall switch, or remote.

2. Push the red ignition button repeatedly, is there a spark being created? If not, please return the enclosed service authorization form with a description of the problem. A Customer Care Representative will contact you to schedule your service upon receipt of the authorization.

3. Check to ensure that the gas is on. (See Check to Ensure the Gas is on above).

4. Hold a lit match to the pilot while pushing the pilot control knob in. If the flame of the match is disturbed without lighting, then you have air in your lines. Follow the procedures for initial or seasonal start up listed above. If the flame of the match does not move, reconfirm that the gas lines are connected and turned on. If they are open, then please return the enclosed Service Authorization Form to schedule service.
