| Your fireplace surround is made from one of the most ancient and beautiful
natural resources found on earth; Marble. Michelangelo's sculptures, ancient
artisans, and renowned architects have recognized the beauty of this stone. |
| |
| Millions of years ago your marble surround went through a transformation. Under
tremendous heat and pressure, limestone was turned into your marble. It was then
nature that created the color, veining, fissures and what some consider
“Imperfections” or other characteristics unique to your stone. Our task was much
easier. We just had to find the stone, cut it to size and polish it. You might
say your surround has been waiting for you for over a million years. The natural
surround you own is not only beautiful but is uniquely yours. A neighbor may
have a piece that is similar, but it will never be identical, just the way
nature intended it to be. |

| The color, veining, clouds, mottling, and shadings in marble are caused by
substances included in minor amounts during formation. Iron oxides make the
pinks, yellows, browns and reds. Most grays, blue-grays and blacks are of
bituminous origin. Greens are caused by micas, chlorite and silicates. |
| |
| Marbles have been classified into four groups. The basis of this classification
is the characteristics encountered in fabricating and has no reference
whatsoever to comparative merit or value. The classification of marble is done
by the Marble Institute of America, producer and finisher members. In all
classifications, marble and stone with some variations in working qualities;
geological flaws, voids, veins and lines of separation are common. |
