Thank you for calling Williams Panel Brick regarding your fireplace. We understand that you are concerned about the heat being generated by your fireplace. In order to prevent costly and unnecessary service trips by our technicians we would like you to assist us in trouble shooting the problem to determine possible causes.

Your professionally installed fireplace system complies with the rigorous specifications of BOCA, UL and the manufacturer. The fireplace and chimney have been installed by our certified installers and has been inspected and approved by the local building department. Typically, the heat that is generated by the fireplace is normal and completely within the design specifications of your fireplace.

LET'S TALK ABOUT SAFETY!

Temperatures approaching 200 degrees Fahrenheit are not uncommon in materials surrounding the fireplace. Wood combusts at 425 degrees Fahrenheit, so you can see that there is no danger of fire occurring. Each fireplace has a hi-limit temperature safety switch which shuts the unit down when temperatures exceed safety parameters.

Most building codes require that wooden mantels should be mounted a minimum distance of 12 inches above the fireplace opening. Be sure to mount your mantel at this height or higher.

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?

If you are still concerned, you should turn on your unit’s fan to help dissipate some of the heat. This should result in a nominal drop in temperature of a few degrees. Fans are available for most Heatilator fireplaces. Please contact the Williams Panel Brick sales staff for more information.

As a safety precaution, we recommend that you refrain from touching the surrounding materials during the fireplaces’ operation. This is especially true for small children who might become fascinated by the flames. Additionally, safety screens and fixed bi-fold doors are available through our sales showroom to prevent children from touching the glass and surrounding area of the fireplace.

We hope this letter has been beneficial and answered your questions about your fireplace’s operation and safety. If your require additional assistance, please complete the enclosed Service Authorization form for a service call.
